Whilst watching The Colbert Report I gleaned an interesting idea from one of Colbert's patently ridiculous rants. Are we a Christian Nation? It seems pretty obvious when you look at our leaders. All of our presidents have followed some form of Christianity. Certainly, that should define us, right?
Wrong.
America is a melting-pot, where religious freedom is guaranteed. Other religions are practiced. Sure, Christianity has an overwhelming majority here, but that doesn't mean that they're in control, does it? I don't think that it does. What about you?

I think that Christians in this country are definitely the ones in control. If every president has followed some form of Christianity, and they are arguably one of the most recognizable Americans to foreigners, then the rest of the world clearly sees us as a Christian state.
ReplyDeleteThey also make the main decisions in terms of military. When is the last time that the US has fought a country that was largely Christian? We are now engaged in the Middle East, fighting mostly Muslims, and before we were fighting the "godless" communists. We don't attack people who share our religion.
